It must have come down from Punxsutawney.
I would have to say (in my expert opinion on the subject matter) that the creature in the picture is most likely a ......GOPHER. Do with that what you will, i'm man enough to take the abuse.
A gopher?? I guess it takes one to know one. It did not look gold to me though.
